OAHI and the RHI Designation
Published on August 15, 2018
Message from the President
Thank you to the OAHI members who have renewed their membership. We appreciate your support and look forward to moving the Association and the profession forward with it.
Over the recent months we have all received the demand letters from the Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors in regards to the use of RHI and Registered Home Inspector designations. Legal representatives of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors have created this document for your information and for clarity.
Over the summer months we have been connecting with the new provincial government and creating new ties with stakeholders in relationship to our Profession. The membership committee is busy developing new ways to enhance OAHI as a more service based organization (watch the benefits page for offers). See Member Benefits for the offer from Health Plus as part of our Member Perks Plus program.
The PR Committee is working with Zoocasa, and in June represented the OAHI at the Tarion Stakeholders Reception.
The Education Conference Committee is working on the March 2019 conference, which will be held in Kingston.
Committees help do the work of the association and they could use some more volunteers. Visit the committees’ page of the OAHI website for more information.
Feel free to contact me at president@oahi.com or the committee chair.
This is your Ontario Association of Home Inspectors, your engagement and feedback help drive OAHI.
Be safe and enjoy the last days of summer.
Best,
Murray Parish, RHI
President
To members of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI), the home buying public and associated industry stakeholders:
The restructuring of CAHPI National into a provincial, member-funded association has lead to a recent email indicating you need to be a CAHPI member to be an RHI or use the designation of Registered Home Inspector (RHI). This is false; the Act, Bill Pr158 (An Act respecting the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors) is clear on this, only qualified OAHI members can use the designation of Registered Home Inspector (RHI). OAHI has begun the necessary process to enforce the Act and non-OAHI members claiming the Registered Home Inspector (RHI) designation listed on other websites will receive notice in the near future.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
