New ICCA Home Flood Risk Assessment Course
“While OAHI member home inspectors already receive a great deal of training on various flood risks including drainage, dampproofing, waterproofing, and more, we encourage all members to further supplement their training by attending the HFRAT course and becoming certified in flood risk assessment. As president of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) and chair of OAHI's Membership Committee, I am pleased to announce a new partnership with the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation. Education is one of OAHI's keys. The new Home Flood Risk Assessment Course, which will be offered at a discount to OAHI members, reinforces our commitment to consumer protection as well as finding innovative and timely ways to cultivate a thriving home inspection industry,” says Murray Parish, RHI, president of the OAHI.
“Flooding across Canada is getting worse, and we need new tools and training to prepare for the storms yet to come. This course will offer substantial benefit to home inspectors, construction professionals and insurance brokers who currently receive very limited training in the area of flood risk assessment. This course will give participants a competitive edge in their ability to identify, and communicate, flood risk to their clients,” says Blair Feltmate, head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation at the University of Waterloo.
As a benefit of membership, OAHI members in good standing are eligible for a 20 per cent discount upon course completion. The course is being offered at Seneca College (Newnham Campus). The course runs Thursday evenings from Sept. 20, 2018 to Dec. 20, 2018 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Students receive a certificate of course completion. The assessment tool is an app, which will be free for one year. The OAHI Registrar will confirm membership status. Visit www.intactcentre.ca.OAHI members can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
