President's Message - Home Inspection Act

Your OAHI President Murray Parish, along with fellow board member Enio Ferri were invited to meetings with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS) on in February regarding Bill 59. Bill 59, the Putting Consumers First Act, which includes the Home Inspection Act, 2017. One of the goals of this act is to license home inspectors.
According to the MGCS, more than half of all practising home inspectors in Ontario are members of the OAHI. For the MGCS that that means those members have accepted the OAHI’s guidelines: Mandatory educational requirements, mandatory E & O insurance, standards of practice, mandatory continuing education, all part of the RHI designation qualifications.
The OAHI was established in1994 under Bill Pr158— the first Act to regulate home inspectors in Ontario—and continues to operate under those parameters as well administer them.
